Deb Malcolm is a self-taught artist, born in Toronto in 1953, now residing in Crystal Beach, Ontario.
Several years ago, she was accepted into the Manitoba Metis Nation after discovering her maternal
ancestry. Because this knowledge came so late in life, she struggled to find ways to connect to her
heritage. Upon learning of the technique of painting with dots, she found her way to connect. She has
been creating pieces in this style for the last 5 years.
The Métis people are known for their beautiful floral beadwork. By applying dots of acrylic paint to
patterns on wood panels and allowing the paint to dry as a “bead”, Deb mimics and honours this
traditional past time.
Her work can be found in collections in Fort Erie, Toronto and Guelph as well as in northern Ontario,
Alberta, BC and the US.
