Dave Corlett

Dave Corlett is a carver, woodworker, and painter based in Riverside, Toronto, and Vals-des-Monts, Quebec. A recent graduate from Centennial College Fine Arts Studio, he loves exploring outdoor environments and seeks to capture his visual experiences in watercolour. He is inspired by Toronto's changing architectural history, geography, and nature. He also gets inspiration from Toronto watercolourists who preceded him; A. J. Casson and Franklin Carmichael are his favourites. His studio practice first involves experiencing all his subjects on foot, with his sketchbook and camera in tow. Plein air drawings are made, and then painted indoors. He strives to find something novel in each familiar subject and give viewers moments of recognition and connection to them. His current series explores east Toronto cityscapes using a palette of burnt sienna and ultramarine blue and Toronto wildflowers using a full colour palette.
