Damini Mittai
Damini is a textile artist with a background in IT and fashion. Her work helps her redefine her identity and perspective as a South Indian and a South Asian. She unintentionally finds the people and places she is connected with in her work and her beautiful, powerful and complicated relationships with them. She uses textile scraps that would otherwise end up in landfills, challenging the concept of waste to craft artworks that evoke the significance and transcendence of nature. Her work represents a tactile and sensory exploration of her new home, as well as her quest for the 'familiar' in the 'unfamiliar.' She has previously exhibited her work at Hong Kong fashion week and Fashion for Good, Amsterdam. She has recently been featured in CBC arts.
