Ever since I was a little girl, I had an interest in Fashion. My grandmother taught me how to sew at the age of 6, and my Barbies were the best dressed Barbies a girl could have. I continued sewing into high school making my prom dress and went on to study fashion design at TMU (Ryerson back when I went). While I enjoyed the design aspect of fashion, I started my career in retail, and learned the ins and outs of visual merchandising. I stayed in this career for over 20 years. While I loved my job and all the challenges that it offered, I hated the long hours, and felt I was missing out on life with a young son. I decided to take a leap and started working a M-F 9-5 job. While it offered me the time to spend with my son, I was missing out on using my creative brain. While I have always drawn or painted or sewn in my spare time, I decided to learn a new skill with macrame. I immediately fell in love. I love the versatility of the rope and what the knots could create. I quickly found my niche by creating wearable pieces, proving that fashion was still on my mind.
8 years into knotting, I simply cannot stop. Rope is so versatile and there are an endless amount of knots out there.
Colour also plays a huge part in my pieces. Combining colours and textures really bring my wearable statement jewellery to life.
I recently started incorporating polymer clay into my jewellery, adding new textures and dimensions.
All my pieces are hand made by me, Dafna, in my living room in the east end part of Toronto. I have no formal training. Everything I create is through trial and error and lots of experimenting.
