Ama Liyanage is a Sri Lankan-Canadian artist based in Kitchener, Ontario. She is a self-taught artist who has cultivated a distinctive style developed through experimentation and artistic role models. Her work explores themes of memory and identity. Ama’s work has been acquired by collectors across North America, Europe, and Asia. She has exhibited at various juried shows, including The Artist Project, and is currently represented by Artspace Warehouse in Los Angeles.

As a Sri Lankan-Canadian artist, her lived experiences navigating cultural expectations around productivity and value through labour inform the core of her practice. Painting has become an act of reclamation. Artistically, she draws from French and Dutch impressionism as well as Sri Lankan artists whose work blends colour, pattern and cultural specificity. She reimagines traditions to center women of colour in scenes of rest and reflection, challenging historical narratives that often link their identities to labor. She is currently developing a new body of work that explores the connection between scent and memory, investigating how fragrance can unlock entire chapters of our personal histories.

She is thrilled to be exhibiting at TOAF for the first time. Visit Booth E528 to say hello and explore her work.
