I have spent the last year collecting trash found on the streets in my neighbourhood, along with recycled magazines. Inspired by my love of fashion, I paired the two together to create a whimsical new body of work that I have titled TRASHION-COUTURE.
I believe “trashion,” be it vegetable waste couture from a compost collection, or plastic fancy work from a candy bar wrapper, is an art for of today. It literally stops me in the street and puts a smile on my face, while at the same time horrifies me at the shear amount of waste we create and carelessly discard of. Collecting these pieces of trash, re-using them in a unique and fun way, and adding new life to them with my lens has sparked my creativity, which admittedly was somewhat dulled due to the pandemic, but has also opened my eyes to the environmental impact of consumerism
