Jethro Tull Coreopsis (RBC Canadian Painting Competition 2009 semi-finalist)
- Artist
- Janice Colbert
- Description
- Jethro Tull Coreopsis is informed by my research into old quilts. The painting represents the toil required to gather worn clothing, improvise and problem-solve when there isn’t enough fabric to sew a visually engaging quilt. The title is the name of a flower in my garden. Through distortion and an iterative colour selection, soft lines of flowers become hard-edged paintings; evocative of quilts, the ‘scraps’ of colour rarely repeat, but are balanced.
