Description
Although originally from China, 600 b.c.e, the shawl has inherited its name from the capital of the Philippines, Manila. During the sixteenth century the Spanish maritime trade route from Manila to Seville was very active, the Manila popularized in women’s clothing. Later becoming one of the most iconic and fundamental piece in flamenco. The painting illustrates an abstract interpretation of a flamenco dancer wearing the manila and holding her hands in one of the flamenco positions.
